Thomas Grünfeld
Thomas Grünfeld, born 1956 in Opladen, Germany, lives and works in Cologne. He explores design as intention; his art is an art of display. Calling attention to items which may be precious or unimportant, his sculpture – by means of subtle manipulation – satirizes that fake intimacy which marks contemporary interiors, as well as the atmosphere they are meant to convey. Suggesting furniture, without ever turning into furniture, deploring forced intimacy while bewailing the loss of privacy, his work depends on combinations so powerful and volatile they threaten to turn each work into a self-detonating device.
