Dominique Gonzalez-Foerster's works are often marked by biographical and literary allusions, as well as developing narratives, which can slowly be deduced from incomplete set pieces, photographs, specially arranged interiors, and personal details. These function as fragmentary indices, researched and displayed by the artist. For Documenta 11, she developed a park that links various geographical and historically coded elements with each other. A telephone booth from Brazil, a bush from Le Corbusier's rose garden in Chandigarh, India, and a lava stone from Mexico, along with other elements, form a system of references, in which real and imaginary travels, historical details, and culturally marked meanings overlap, storing traces for the (re-)construction of the (re-)construction of multiple narratives.
