Darren Almond
Darren Almond, born 1971 in Wigan, UK, lives and works in London. Over the course of almost three decades, Darren Almond has developed a practice that engages with time and duration as well as personal and historical memory in a compelling way. Behind the often enigmatic direction of his work lies a process of investigation and exploration that often involves extensive travel to remote locations. In this process, Almond develops discrete portraits of places that question geographical boundaries, the activity of travel and culturally specific notions of arrival and departure. The resonance of these places, climates and geographies is also partly traced in narratives of human experience, including Almond's own personal and family history. A constant for the artist is the endeavor to understand time in its manifold means and forms, despite its inexorable passing.
