John Baldessari’s edition Eyebrow (2009) builds on the artist’s early-2000s practice, in which he transformed film stills of faces and bodies through paint, collage, and overlaid forms that obscured or altered key features. Created as part of Baldessari’s intervention for the Krefelder Museen Haus Lange and Haus Esters (designed by Mies van der Rohe), the edition inscribes the architectural clarity of the buildings with a striking human motif, opening up a wide field of associations and interpretations.
