Mondrian's Work XII (Tableau 2006) is part of Joseph Kosuth’s edition series that draws upon his earlier body of 16 works (silkscreen on glass with white neon, mounted directly on the wall) created between 2005 and 2022, which reference Piet Mondrian’s oeuvre. In these works, Kosuth integrated Mondrian’s texts into the spaces between the iconic compositions. For the edition, the individual works were reduced to 50% of their original height and width. The titles of the pieces (Werk I through Werk XVI) correspond to the creation years of Kosuth's respective originals (Tableau I, 2005 to Tableau XVI, 2022). Kosuth decided to create two versions of the edition: 15 sets as silkscreens on aluminum panels and 15 sets as silkscreens on rag paper.
