The complete portfolios Moonstrips Empire News I and II comprise 100 and 50 motifs, respectively. The portfolios were published in editions of 500 and 350 (70 per color variation), respectively.

Eduardo Paolozzi’s Moonstrips Empire News (1967) brings together a diverse array of images drawn from popular culture, advertising, technology, comics and everyday life. Across the prints, photographic imagery, geometric patterns, mechanical forms and vivid colours are combined in constantly shifting compositions, ranging from figurative images to almost entirely abstract arrangements.
The portfolio exemplifies Paolozzi’s fascination with the visual language of mass media and the possibilities of juxtaposing seemingly unrelated images. The individual prints can be arranged in different sequences, allowing new relationships and associations to emerge between them. Moonstrips Empire News is a landmark work of British Pop Art, while its use of found imagery, repetition and fragmentation also reflects Paolozzi’s continuing engagement with Dada and Surrealism. The portfolio is part of the collections of Tate, London, and MoMA, New York.
