Landscape I, 1965

Screenprint, 60.96 x 50.8 cm. Edition of 200, signed and numbered.

EUR 2,000

In edition Landscape I (1965), from the portfolio 11 Pop Artists, Allan D'Arcangelo transforms the American landscape into a system of simplified signs and geometric forms. The composition combines vivid fields of colour with a central black arrow, suggesting a road, direction and movement while reducing the landscape to its most essential elements.
The work reflects D’Arcangelo’s characteristic engagement with highways, road signs and the visual structures of the American landscape. By stripping these familiar elements of their naturalistic context, he turns them into an abstract visual language that sits between landscape and signage. Landscape I was part of the influential 11 Pop Artists, Volume I, published by Original Editions in 1966, and is in the collections of MoMA, New York, The Whitney, New York, and the National Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C., among others.
