Eduardo Paolozzi

Eduardo Paolozzi (1924-2005), born in Leith, Edinburgh, lived and worked in London and Paris. A pioneering figure of British Pop Art, he developed a distinctive practice rooted in collage, sculpture and printmaking. Drawing on comic strips, advertising, machine parts and other fragments of popular and industrial culture, Paolozzi combined seemingly unrelated images and objects to explore the visual world of modern technology and mass media.
Although closely associated with the emergence of Pop Art in Britain, Paolozzi considered himself a Surrealist, and his work remained deeply influenced by Dada and Surrealism. His early collages anticipated the visual language of Pop Art, while his later sculptures and prints continued to transform everyday imagery, industrial forms and mechanical processes into complex, often playful compositions.
